Dear all,
There are two new dates for your diary as follows:
Saturday 14th October 2017
Playing visit to St. Laurence Church,West Woodhay RG20 0BL, 10am to 12 noon and St. Martin’s Church, East Woodhay RG20 0AL, 2pm to 4pm. Please come along and support this local event, which allows time for a pub lunch between visiting the two churches. Do come if you are not a player and make this a social event too. There will be light refreshments provided at East Woodhay. The West Woodhay instrument is of the Father Willis family and the one at East Woodhay has been recently restored. Please let me know if you intend to come, even if you can only attend part of the day.

Our AGM will once again be held at St. George’s Church, Wash Common, Newbury. There will also be another opportunity to play the new Walker organ. The church has been booked from 12 noon to 5pm and exact timings will be confirmed later.
As advertised in the last Newsletter The Berkshire Organists’ Association have once again invited members of Newbury & District Organists’ Association to their Annual Dinner which is being held on Saturday 18th November 2017 at 7.30pm. The venue is Stirrups Country House Hotel at Maidens Green, near Bracknell, RG42 6LD. A three course meal @ £32 is provided. The Guest Speaker will be Dr. Alan Thurlow. He was Organist and Master of the Choristers at Chichester Cathedral from 1980 – 2008. He was President of the IAO for four years, President of the Cathedral Organists’ Association, Chairman of the Friends of Cathedral Music for 12 years and now Vice-President. In 2005, he received a Lambeth Doctorate from the Archbishop of Canterbury and he is currently Chairman of the British Institute of Organ Studies (BIOS). Menu choices will be sent out nearer the time.

Our scheme to offer a set number of free lessons to new students of the organ, young or old, has been fully subscribed. On Saturday 23rd September 2017 from 2pm to 5pm at St. John’s Church, Newbury we will be holding a group session for the 19 successful candidates, 10 of whom are under 18 years of age. There will be a demonstration at the console by a young organ student and NDOA member, Piers Fulcher and an explanation of how the organ works.
Finally, please subscribe to Organists’ Review. This very readable quarterly magazine published by the IAO is well worth the cost and contains something for everyone.
